There were many things that the acute-care hospital did well. These included having an efficient patient flow protocol, having doctors and nurses who could respond quickly to patients in need of immediate attention, having effective and efficient automated acute care machines like life-supporting machines, and having an efficient computerized billing system (CDC, 2020). Evelyne Acute Care Hospital’s weak aspect is its faulty waste disposal system. The acute care hospital’s policy for disposing of non-infectious, infected, and highly infectious wastes was not well handled and needs quality improvement. A few of Hopkins Nursing Home’s best features include its well-ventilated rooms and nutritious meals. Locations where the elderly may relax and unwind efficiently and effectively. The nursing staff is Hopkins’s biggest quality issue. Due to a lack of nurses, the elderly residents of the nursing home are being poorly cared for (Chatterjee et al., 2020). St. Lucie’s outpatient department has a lot going for it, including the excellent consultation services offered by the trained medical professionals who staff it and the well-thought-out structure and flow system that is laid out on a whiteboard just inside the hospital’s front doors (CDC, 2019). The billing system is the area that requires the most work to bring it up to par with everything else. Paper invoices are used instead of a computerized system.
I discovered the following practice issue at the acute care hospital: the poor waste disposal system. In the acute care hospital, the protocol for disposing of non-infectious waste, infectious waste, and highly infectious waste was not adequately addressed, and the quality of this aspect of the service needs to be improved (CDC, 2020). The elderly population in the Hopkins Nursing Home receives inadequate nursing care as a result of inadequate staffing levels on the part of the nursing staff, which I discovered while working at the Hopkins Nursing Home. The outpatient department at St. Lucie Hospital has a poor billing system, which is the practice problem I discovered there. Paperwork rather than computerization serves as the foundation for the billing system.
An improper waste disposal system is a potential focus for an EBP quality improvement project. This is due to the fact that correct waste disposal techniques are very important in acute care facilities (Abou Hashish & Alsayed, 2020). Ineffective methods of waste disposal can increase the risk of infectious diseases like hepatitis B being contracted by patients as well as healthcare professionals. Eliminating waste in an appropriate manner lessens the likelihood that infectious diseases will spread (Abou Hashish & Alsayed, 2020). An EBP quality improvement project may choose to concentrate on the issue of inadequate staffing levels among healthcare providers, such as nurses working in nursing homes. This is due to the fact that inadequate staffing levels of healthcare providers, such as nurses, result in errors in medication administration and inadequate nursing services being provided to the elderly population residing in nursing homes (Abou Hashish & Alsayed, 2020). The poor billing system in the outpatient department, which leads to patients being overcharged and ultimately drives up the cost of outpatient services, is to blame for the high cost (CDC, 2019).
